This Summer in Nashville
by Edley Newman
Spice things up in Nashville this summer!
There are so many reasons to love Music City. For tourists looking for things to do in Nashville or native Nashvillians looking for a fun Saturday, you’ll find live music, art, beer, 5Ks, and festivals to be a part of this summer. Whatever you choose, make the most of it! But if staying home is your thing, invite some friends over and eat some BBQ!
This is the 14th year the Frist Center has hosted Frist Fridays! The popular summer series kicks off on June 24th. Enjoy snacks, drinks, and great live music in the Turner Courtyard from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. While you’re there, peruse the diverse exhibitions in the Frist Center’s galleries. The events are free for Frist members, and if you’re not a member, the cost is $12. See the dates and performers below:
- June 24th – SixtyFour – An awesome Beatles cover band, SixtyFour will play early hits all the way up through Let It Be.
- July 29th – The Revelers and Halfbrass – From Louisiana, The Revelers play swamp pop, country, and zydeco. Halfbrass is a New Orleans-influenced quintet that mixes brass band music with funk, jazz, and rock.
- August 26th – Rhett Miller – Rhett is described as an “alt-country lifer” by Rolling Stone. Check out his newest release, The Traveler.
Who’s your favorite country artist? Chances are, they will be a part of the CMA Music Festival! It officially kicks off on June 9th and goes through June 12th. Get the app and you’ll be able to create individual concert schedules and be the first to know if and where your favorite stars will be appearing.
For the ultimate fan experience, check out Fan Fair X located inside the Music City Center. Get an autograph (or 10!), listen to Q&A’s, shop, and do crafts! Click here to see pricing.
Funds generated through CMA Music Festival ticket sales for the nightly concerts at Nissan Stadium and Fan Fair X benefit music education. Since 2006, CMA and the CMA Foundation have donated more than $13.6 million to support sustainable music education initiatives across the country on behalf of the artists who participate in the event for free.
Are you a Runner?
Check out all these fantastic running events around Nashville. Even if you’re not a runner (yet), these are excellent events to meet your one true love, donate to a good cause, enjoy the best beer in Nashville, or meet some new friends and bond over your future as serious runners.
Nashville Night Markets
Relax at the Nashville Farmer’s Market from 5:00pm to 8:00pm every third Friday of the month this summer! Shops will stay open late, and there will be live music and artisans. The events are family-friendly, free, and will go on rain or shine! Beer, wine, and cocktails will be available for purchase. Plan to attend June 17th or July 15th.
Jefferson Street Jazz & Blues Festival
This summer will be the 16th year of the Jefferson Street Jazz & Blues Festival. With thousands of attendees each year, the Jefferson Street Jazz & Blues festival builds cultural awareness, attracts diversity and commemorates the historic Jefferson Street Corridor through the sounds of jazz, blues, funk, gospel, soul and R&B. It’s not just a music festival, either. This 2-day event includes the “Bridging the Gap” mixer on June 17th from 7pm-1am, a free Children’s Pavilion on the 18th from 12pm-3pm, and an all day concert on the 18th at the Bicentennial Mall Park from 2pm to 10pm.
Nashville Sounds Games
Our own Nashville Sounds have a packed schedule this summer with multiple games per week. Enjoy a hot dog and a cold beverage in the new stadium! A Sounds game is perfect for a family outing, date night, or a company get-together. Pick up some merch while you’re there!
