DIY Pumpkin Beer Cooler
by Edley Newman
Looking for a way to bring a creative, original element to your upcoming Halloween gathering? Our pumpkin beer cooler will be THE conversation piece of your party!
To create this jack-o-lantern, you’ll need a few supplies:
- A pumpkin
- Permanent marker
- Pumpkin carving kit (we used this one and loved the saw!)
- Dry ice
- Gloves (don’t handle the dry ice with bare skin!)
- Your favorite bottled beer (we went with our favorite, Yazoo’s Fall Lager)
Step 1: Cut the top of the pumpkin off
Using the screwdriver included in the carving kit, poke several holes around the pumpkin stem.
Then, go back with the saw and remove the stem.
Step 2: Remove insides
Get ready to get a little messy – use your hands to remove the pumpkin’s insides. You can also use the spoon to help scoop out the goop!
Step 3: Sketch out your design
This is a chance to be creative with the jack-o-lantern’s face! We used a permanent marker to create the design so the lines wouldn’t smear.
After drawing the face, use a beer bottle to sketch the bottom. This will help you determine the size of the holes to cut out of the pumpkin, as well as lay out the placement of your beer display!
Step 4: Cut out the design
Repeat the process in Step 1 to save yourself some carving time.
Step 5: Insert beer and dry ice mixture
Plug in the bottles into the cut out holes.
Then, put on the gloves and place pieces of the dry ice in the bottom of the pumpkin. Then, pour some water into the pumpkin until the “smoke” comes out of the jack-o-lantern.
For an extra spook factor, we added a light behind one of the beer bottle holes so that the jack-o-lantern’s face could be seen in the dark.
