Hot Chicken is a Nashville Delicacy

You may be thinking, “it’s just spicy chicken, who cares?”. You know what happens when you assume, right? Hot Chicken is a legend in Music City. While it sounds simple, its flavor is anything but. There’s something different about Hot Chicken compared to other spicy fried chicken, it’s sweeter, spicier, more delicate… And a lot of those unique details come from how it is prepared. Usually, Hot Chicken is made with a water-based blend of seasonings, including cayenne pepper, sugar, garlic, and more.

Hot Chicken Began as Spicy Revenge

Supposedly, in the 1930’s, Thornton Prince III was caught flirting with women late at night, and as punishment, his wife laced his chicken with loads of peppers, and spices. Lo and behold, Prince enjoyed the meal so much it became a family tradition. In the 1980’s, the first Hot Chicken restaurant, Prince’s Hot Chicken opened. The rest is history. Now you can find Hot Chicken on just about every corner in Nashville, and it’s immensely popular beyond our city’s borders.
